From the Chairman
An entrepreneur is a force for change; a group of entrepreneurs working together has the power to transform a country.
That’s the big lesson that was learned during the successful inaugural Digicel Entrepreneur of the Year awards in Haiti last year – and it’s reflected in the theme of the forthcoming 2011 awards: A Force for Change in Haiti.
The aim of the Entrepreneur of the Year programme is as simple as it is daunting: to build new economic foundations for Haiti by identifying, rewarding and cultivating the new business leaders of the future.
Nominations for the awards are now open, and the judges will be looking for seven fundamental qualities: leadership, integrity, competence, transparency, vision, creativity and environmental awareness.
The first stage of the competition begins with four regional finals in which 96 of the country’s highest business achievers will compete for 24 places in the six categories that make up the national finals.
In the run-up to the grand finale, those last 24 will take part in an intensive three-day executive education programme – a programme which last year’s finalists described as a life-changing experience.
The aim of this high-octane programme is to give the participants the strategic skills and expertise to look outside of Haiti to the international marketplace for the growth which will drive their businesses in the decades to come.
It also aims to demonstrate the benefits of shared learning experiences, powered by imagination and innovation. Entrepreneurs have a natural tendency to work alone; but by working together their gains can be multiplied many times over – ultimately for the greater good of the country.
The Digicel Entrepreneur of the Year awards are a first step towards giving indigenous business leaders, men and woman, a meaningful stake in a thoroughly regenerated, newly modernised, enterprise-driven Haiti. That’s certainly a goal worth competing for.
If you are an entrepreneur, or if you know one, we invite you please to participate in the Digicel Entrepreneur of the Year Haiti 2011
